Mt. Shasta Snowball with Secret Society Handshake
The Friends of the Mt. Shasta Avalanche Center once again sponsored their annual Snowball at the Mt. Shasta Upper Lodge. Thanks Justi Hansen for promoting this event and bringing in Shasta Live Sound for the pro sound support. Two live bands were featured this year. Whiskey Gulch opened the show with their unique bluegrass / country rock sound. The group consists of Kevin Andas on guitar and lead vocals, Julie May on fiddle and vocals, Tristan Behm on bass and vocals, and Sam on mandolin and vocals. Sweet harmonies and toe tapping picking got the crowd warmed up for the rest of the evening. Shasta Live Sound provided the audio engineering and live sound band mixing.
The PA system was very much needed for the live raffle for Master of Ceremonies Anna Repetto to be heard over the sold out house. This is usually a pretty boisterous and unruly crowd and this year was no different. They finally got to let of steam with non-stop dancing during the headline act: Secret Society Handshake band. This is a 13 piece funk/soul group that really knows how to delivery the goods. Pro sound mixing for a group this big is a little more work than live production of the typical 4-5 piece rock group. But they are well worth it as they get everyone up dancing to their great funk sound. Three whole sets of live entertainment were provided and the dancers stayed to the bitter end. What a contrast to the typical Mt. Shasta gig where 2/3 of the crowd are gone by 10:00PM.
With 4 (count them, four) ladies singing on the front line, a 3 piece horn section, two guitars, bass, drums, and congas, Secret Society Handshake has a big sound and puts on an exciting show. They have got something for everybody. Shasta Live Sound provided stage lighting and a light show to accompany the live music. This was a lot of fun and added to the festive snowball atmosphere. Thanks to Richard Lucas for his immense disco ball!
Live music is a great way to attract a crowd to a community event or benefit like this. We need more fun events like this. Keep up the good work
